How much do you know about poet and author Paul Laurence Dunbar? He lived around the time of the Wright Brothers. In fact, he was their classmate.

Born in Ohio, Dunbar was a prolific writer and left a body of work of poems and short stories that have inspired so many. He brought the African American experience to the nation with dialect intact.

Dunbar’s life and work will be featured in an upcoming local production at TAG: The Actors Group. The Conversation talked with producer Derrick Brown and researcher Larry Bartley to learn more.

The dramatized reading of works by Paul Laurence Dunbar celebrates Black History Month and runs from Jan. 21 to Feb. 6.

This interview aired on The Conversation on Jan. 12, 2022. The Conversation airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on HPR-1.
